Academic Plan for Engineering Science Major

The curriculum in engineering science has been designed so that a student in this major can attend a commonwealth campus for the complete first and second year before transferring to the University Park campus without delaying graduation.

View the Engineering Science Advising Flowchart and Checklist, which displays the typical semester-by-semester placement of courses at the University Park campus.

Please note: For students starting in summer 2018 or later, the general education requirements have changed. Please refer to the Suggested Academic Plan on the University's Undergraduate Bulletin website.

Academic Plan for Engineering Science Pre-Med Plan

The Department of Engineering Science and Mechanics offers a Pre-Med option to undergraduates who wish to pursue the field of medicine.

Please note: For students starting in summer 2018 or later, the general education requirements have changed. Please refer to the Suggested Academic Plan on the University's Undergraduate Bulletin website.

Concurrent Majors

At the baccalaureate level, students may be approved for admission to more than one major under the Concurrent Majors program. A concurrent majors program is one in which students take courses to concurrently meet the requirements of at least two majors, with graduation for all majors in the program occurring during the same semester.

When adding a second (or third) major with the Engineering Science major, there are numerous courses in one of the two majors that can fulfill course requirements in the other. To complete two bachelor’s degrees in engineering disciplines in four years, a student should either come in with a number of AP credits or be willing to take a number of 18+ credits semesters.

Most common concurrent majors:

  • Chemical Engineering and Engineering Science
  • Electrical Engineering and Engineering Science
  • Energy Engineering and Engineering Science
  • Mathematics (General Option) and Engineering Science
  • Mechanical Engineering and Engineering Science
  • Physics and Engineering Science

For more information on the Concurrent Majors program, please refer to the Undergraduate Program Guide.
