Williamsport, Pa. — Anthony Jacob Kancevicius, 22, of South Mountain appeared loose at a preliminary hearing Thursday at the Lycoming County Courthouse.
Kancevicius laughed at times while speaking with people seated behind him in the courtroom. Despite his demeanor throughout the multiple-hour hearing, Kancevicius may not have got the ruling he wanted at the hearing's conclusion.
Charges of indecent assault of a person less than 13, unlawful contact with a minor, and interference with custody of children were all approved for trial by Judge Gary Whiteman. Kancevicius did not smile much after the ruling.
Kancevicius was charged over two cases in 2023.
In one case, he allegedly attempted to lure a child to his home. A series of videos played for the courtroom Thursday that showed Kancevicius stalking a child for several blocks before grabbing them.
The victim of the first case fought back tears as she was interviewed by lawyers.
“He [Kancevicius] said, ‘can you touch me?’,” the victim testified.
Kancevicius allegedly stuck his head underneath a fence near the victim’s home. He then asked them to touch him while attempting to lure them into his home. The victim ran into a relatives’ house and told them. Kancevicius was later confronted by a relative of the victim.
“He said he wanted a lawyer,” the witness said of the confrontation.
In the second case, Kancevicius was accused of running up to a child from behind and grabbing the child's butt. The victim in the second case, who was grabbed by Kancevicius, testified at Thursday's hearing. She explained how Kancevicius approached her from behind and grabbed her butt.
“He was smirking,” the victim said.
Kancevicius was not smirking after the charges were bound over and he was led out of the courthouse in handcuffs.
“What the f**k are you doing,” he said to media standing outside.
