Annual Assessment Notices Mailed May 24, 2024

The White County Assessors office mailed annual assessment notices on Friday, May 24, 2024 to all owners of real and personal property. Real property consists of land and any improvements thereon. Personal Property consists of boats, personal watercraft, aircraft, businesses and manufacturers. The annual notice will include an explanation for the notice and an estimate of the property tax bill.

If you have not received your assessment notice via mail, you may do one of the following;

  • Contact our office at 706-865-5328 to ensure we have your correct mailing address.
  • Select Property Record Card Search on this page, search for your property by name, address or map and parcel number, scroll to the bottom of the page and select 2024 Assessment Notice (PDF) to access your 2024 notice of assessment.

Property owners will haveuntil July 8, 2024to file an appeal online, via U.S. mail or in person. Only the USPS postmark can be used to determine the timeliness of any appeals mailed close to the deadline. Appeal information, interactive appeal forms and FAQs can be found on this page.

Please note, the Board of Assessors has no authority to extend appeal deadlines.

Function and Purpose

The Board of Assessors and the Assessors Office staff is charged by Georgia State Law with appraising all property in White County at itsFair Market Valueso that no taxpayer is taxed for more than his or her fair share of taxes.

The White County Tax Assessor's Office keeps track of property ownership by receiving copies of all deeds filed in White County. As property sells, the office is able to document ownership information, tract sizes, and sales prices of properties sold. The Assessor's Office also responsible for measuring every taxable structure in White County and maintaining a scaled drawing of these structures. Periodic reviews are conducted to determine any changes to the properties and any trends taking place in particular divisions of the county called neighborhoods. The office also maintains a file on the construction components of each structure, the quality of materials and workmanship of the structure, and previous sales data on the property in order to help determine the current fair market value of the property. Each parcel in the county is visited by a field appraisal team at least once every three years.

The information gathered by the Assessor's Office is recorded and transmitted to the Tax Commissioner's Office so tax bills can be charged to taxpayers based on the assessed property values.
