How Many Calories Are In V Energy?

A 250ml can of Original V Energy has about 128 calories, which is fairly average for an energy drink.

For comparison, a 250ml can of Red Bull has 117 calories, so there’s not that much of a difference between the two, at least from a caloric standpoint.

Considering that the daily recommended caloric intake is between 2000 to 2400 calories for women and 2400 to 3000 calories for men, a can of V Energy by itself actually won’t put much of a dent in your daily caloric allowance.

However, if you start having cans of V back-to-back, all those calories will certainly add-up in the long-run, potentially leading to weight gain and other potential side-effects.

Of course, extra calories don’t really matter as much if you have an active enough lifestyle to burn them off, plus your cells do require calories as an actual source of energy.

All-in-all, V Energy Drink seems to be pretty balanced from a calorie perspective, but if you’re not too keen on counting calories, I’ve written an article on the best zero-calorie energy drinks, which might be useful for you.

V Energy Drink Caffeine Content

There’s 85mg of caffeine in an original 275ml can of V Energy Drink.

85mg is a pretty average amount of caffeine for an energy drink its size, and only slightly more than a Red Bull, given that a 250ml can of Red Bull has 80mg of caffeine.

I personally prefer somewhere between 50 to 100mg of caffeine per serving for energy drinks, so Green V Energy has just the right amount of caffeine in my opinion. Any more than about 100mg in a single-serve can sometimes leave me jittery or unable to think straight.

Depending on your caffeine metabolism, however, you might find yourself wanting to drink another can of V, especially if you happen to be a hardened caffeine veteran and you’re used to having a lot of caffeine.

Of course, even if you find a single can of V Energy insufficient in giving you the buzz you’re looking for, it’s probably for the best that you don’t go overboard with it either.

While having too much caffeine is a pretty big issue, the FDA approves a caffeine intake limit of no more than 400mg per day, as any more than that might lead to side effects such as:

  • Insomnia
  • Restlessness
  • Headaches
  • Dizziness
  • Dehydration
  • Anxiety

As with all caffeinated beverages, moderation is key, so be sure not to have too many cans of V Energy in one go, and try not to also have a coffee, tea or other soft drinks alongside your already caffeinated energy drink.

V Energy Drink Sugar Content

There’s 26.5g of sugar per 275ml can of V Energy Drink.

Now sugar isn’t always the big bad everyone makes it out to be. On the contrary, if taken in moderation, it’s a pretty good treat, giving you a bit of a dopamine boost and mood lift when you have some.

Of course, consistently having too much sugar is where all the sugar-related health issues start cropping up.

According to the AHA, you should keep your daily sugar intake to no more than 25g for women and 36g for men, while the UK’s NHS recommends a daily added sugar limit for adults of no more than 30g for both sexes.

With 26.5g, a can of V Energy has roughly 1.8 tablespoons of sugar, not as much as a Mother or a Rockstar, but not exactly the healthiest amount either.

While it’s perfectly fine to go over the daily sugar limit every now and then, having too much sugar consistently can lead to some notable health problems such as:

  • Weight Gain
  • Type II Diabetes
  • Increased risk of heart disease
  • Acne
  • Increased risk of depression

Having too much sugar in a short period can also lead to you having a sugar crash, where you feel slow and lethargic as your blood sugar returns to normal, so it’s definitely not something you want out of an energy drink.

If you think the sugar content in V Energy Drink is a bit high, there’s always the sugar-free version of V Energy, albeit with artificial sweeteners.

V Energy Drink Guarana Extract

A Comprehensive Review – Is It Worth the Money? – REIZECLUB (3)

Heavily featured on the can and in promotional material, there’s 330mg of guarana extract present in V Energy Drink, which is actually a lot more than the caffeine content present.

Guarana is heavily featured on V Energy Drink and for good reasons, boasting an impressive mix of ingredients, which have components that range from stimulants to antioxidants.

While a staple feature in energy drinks such as Rockstar, V Energy seems to be specifically focused on guarana in their marketing material, which does help differentiate it from the rest of the crowd.

However, a major component of guarana is actually just plain caffeine, which makes sense as to why it seems to have the ability to reduce fatigue and improve focus.

While guarana is generally a beneficial ingredient to have, the downside is that it may cause the caffeine content of V Energy to be higher than it’s mentioned on the label, even by a small amount.

Is V Energy Drink Gluten-Free?

As the ingredients label for V Energy states that it includes wheat derivatives, it would be safe to assume to V Energy Drink is not gluten-free.

If you happen to have celiac disease, it’s probably best to choose another energy drink instead, as V Energy does contain wheat derivatives, which may trigger the disease if you’re gluten-sensitive.

For the rest of us, gluten-free diets are mainly to improve our overall health and diet with reported varying degrees of success.

V Energy Drink Versions

A Comprehensive Review – Is It Worth the Money? – REIZECLUB (4)

Apart from the original version, V Energy does offer multiple guarana-inspired drinks and flavours for you to choose from.

Here are the more notable options:

  • Pure (Energy Juice)
  • Blue
  • Original
  • Raspberry Lemonade
  • Sugar-Free
  • Forbidden
  • Tropical (Sugar-Free)
  • Berry Twist (Sugar-Free)
  • Iced Coffee (Coffee with Guarana extract)

What Does V Energy Taste Like?

V Energy Drink has the usual energy drink-like texture to it, but with a tangy, sour twist in flavour.

From a pure flavour perspective, Green V tastes just about the same as your standard can of Monster or Red Bull, the ‘energy drink’ taste if you will. It’s not exactly anything new, characteristic of having a lot of B group vitamins, but it’s definitely not the worst flavour on the planet.

What puts Green V above either Monster or Red Bull in my opinion is its more refined finish, having a more fruity, almost citrus-like aftertaste that you may find a lot more pleasant.

And if you wonder what V Energy tastes like in comparison to the bigger energy drink names, such as Monster and Red Bull, take a look at the video below:

How Many Cans Of V Energy Can You Have A Day?

Green V Energy

Daily Max Limit
(Female/Male)
Calories128.35 calories 2400 calories/3000 calories
Sugar29.2g25g / 36g
Caffeine85mg400mg

I would personally recommend that you have no more than one can of Green/Original V Energy Drink per day, mostly due to its high sugar content.

While you’re probably not going to suffer a caffeine overdose from having too many V Energy Drinks (well, unless you happen to be caffeine-sensitive), the sugar content is a bit of an issue.

While the sugar content in one can of V Energy is still fairly reasonable, two cans will definitely put you well over the AHA recommended daily sugar limit, and any more than that is definitely wandering into unhealthy territory.

As long as you only have V Energy in moderation, you shouldn’t have to be too worried about its sugar and caffeine content.

Furthermore, keep in mind that you’re likely getting sugar and possibly also caffeine from other things you eat and drink, so keep a close eye on your total intake of each on the days that you do drink a can of V.

V Energy Drink Price

A regular 250ml can of V Energy Drink costs around $2.50, depending on where you get it from.

$2.50 a can is pretty much just the baseline, and you can find them for cheaper (or pricier) depending on multiple factors, such as sale events or shop discounts.

Supermarkets like Coles and Woolies are usually the cheapest places to buy them, while convenience stores and petrol stations are usually a tad pricier.

All in all, it’s a pretty competitive price when compared with other well-known energy drink brands.

V Energy Drink Review (8 out of 10)

A Comprehensive Review – Is It Worth the Money? – REIZECLUB (5)

In conclusion, I would rate the original V Energy Drink a pretty solid 8 out of 10. It’s a great alternative to global brands, with a refreshing taste and a reasonable price.

Simply put, V Energy Drink just works.

While it doesn’t have the mystique element of Blue V Energy, it does make up for it by being a local classic, with decent serving size, refreshing taste, and a relatively decent price point.

Of course, it may have a tad more sugar than strictly necessary, but it does make for a pretty tasty drink. Plus, its sugar content still falls under the acceptable territory of an energy drink.

Overall, if you’re looking for a quick pick-me-up that’s not your usual Red Bull or Mother, a can of V Energy Drink will certainly perk you right up.

Despite the pretty good review score, I still recommend that you drink the sugar-free version of V instead of the original version to avoid all that unnecessary sugar and calories.
